midnight freewriting

In the depths of the night

when I'm the only one awake

you loiter in the maze of my mind

elusively peeking out from behind foggy memories

you're half solid, half gas

I clutch at damp air

you're there but not there, like

voices underwater

sometimes I think

would it all have been easier if

there'd been an absolute tragedy?

A real final fullstop

because I could add a tail

make that fullstop a comma

a pause in the long sentence

that is our lives

Or I could add yet another

and another

make it three dots

"to be continued"

what would you want?

but now it's time for what

I want

Isn't it?
